HYPER HOUSE

W*IP, group exhibition

20 September – 20 October, 2023

The cyborg is a kind of disassembled and reassembled, postmodern collective and personal self. This is the self feminists must code.

– Donna Haraway. Simians, Cyborgs, and Women: The Reinvention of Nature

“The cyborg is a kind of disassembled and reassembled, postmodern collective and personal self. This is the self feminists must code”, Haraway shouted at us in the 1980s, shortly before the VNS Matrix collective published its Cyberfeminist Manifesto. Both embrace technology as an emancipatory tool and urge us to understand it and use it as a builder of horizontal networks that generate spaces of support, of power, that disrupt and alter male domination.

W*IP is an exhibition that speaks of the importance of processes as opposed to results, an exaltation of collective learning that does not focus on the final product. In a technological context, women, non-binary people, trans people, digital artists use the Internet as a fascial system where their work spaces, connected rooms of one’s own, are related in rhizomatic networks of support, support and resistance following models similar to those generated in the 90s. The presumed feminine technophobia has been overcome, we are emancipated and from this position, we will create.

W*IP is a group exhibition curated by Pau Jiménez (ESP) with works by Ada Sokół (PLN), Clara Harguindey (ESP), Harriet Davey (UK), Laura Tabares (ESP), Lola Zoido (ESP), Mayte Gómez (ESP), Natalia Stuyk (ESP), Sarah Mayer (DE), Simone García (CUB) and Vitória Cribb (BRL), which shows live the slow course of digital production. It vindicates patience and mediocrity, allowing to expose attempts, researches and pieces developed live as a result of these links. HYPER HOUSE will connect these desks, making and unmaking itself as the days go by.

This project is funded by Madrid City Council. It also has the collaboration of Concéntrico, International Festival of Architecture and Design of Logroño, which has lent the installation 'El Ciempiés' by Picado de Blas as part of the exhibition design.
